Did you know there are more than the typical 3 trimesters of pregnancy? Today I’m spilling the tea on everything you can expect from conception to the mysterious "4th trimester."
I had my last child almost 3 years ago and I am just now learning about the 4th trimester!
I’m not only going to share with you what to expect in each, but also a lot of local resources you can use as you plan for your pregnancy, newborn and birth in Owatonna, Minnesota.
First Trimester: The Secret Life of Pregnancy
The first trimester is like a secret club where only you and your growing baby are members. During these first 12 weeks, your body is working overtime to create a new life, and you might be feeling the effects (hello, morning sickness). It's like you're part of an exclusive group that only fellow expectant moms can truly understand.
Both my pregnancies were different, my first you couldn't tell I was pregnant until the baby was about to pop out! And my second the bump came in a little faster!

For many, the second trimester is the golden age of pregnancy, where you can finally start enjoying the journey. With the nausea subsiding and the baby bump showing, it's time to embrace the experience.
- One of the unique ways I've seen pregnancies announced is by having your pets announce it, or if you don't have pets making a “movie poster” is always a fun idea!
- Shopping local outlets in Owatonna was always a fun way to find new clothes to fit my growing body!
Maternity Photos
Maternity photos are best done from 32-34 weeks and can be done in studio, or outdoors. We have a client closet for you to barrow some gorgeous gowns from!
Newborn Photos
Newborn photos are best done within the first 2 weeks the sooner the better. We can do in home or in studio, and we have all the props and outfits you could dream of!
Third Trimester: The Home Stretch
The third trimester is when things start to get real. As you prepare for your baby's arrival, you'll want to make sure you have everything in place for a smooth transition.
The Nursery
Not everyone does a nursery but if you do decide on a themed one there are SO many cute ideas it's really hard to pick! I did winnie the pooh for mine because that was my favorite movie as a child! I got the little letters to spell out her name and made them into characters and even painted the characters going up her bookshelf!

Preparing with Your Partner (or older children) For the New Baby
When we had our second child I was very nervous our daughter would let me pick other children up or let other children touch me without getting upset, so we were a little worried. We spent the months leading up to birth giving her a baby doll and teaching her how to care for it! And we had no problems once her little brother got here!

Birth: The Main Event
The moment you've been waiting for is finally here: birth! Whether you're planning a natural birth or a C-section, this stage is exciting and emotional!

- I had both a natural and a c-section birth for my babies, and bothhad a lot of emotion and a lot of stories to go with them but i would do both all over again!
- Shout out to the Owatonna baby cafe that helps so much with lactation consultation and just general community after baby gets here, we went once a week to ask any questions and check baby's weight and the ladies there were so great and understanding!

The 4th Trimester: What No One Tells You
Surprise! Your journey doesn't end with birth. The 4th trimester is the first three months of your baby's life, where both of you are adjusting to the world outside the womb.
- Its a long three months but so worth it, you will have sleepless nights, and there may be times where breastfeeding feels like way too much, but the smiles you get, the cuddles, and the love make it all so worth it!
- Again going to the baby cafe put on by the Owatonna cafe is a great form of support especially in those tough first three months.
Of course, every journey is unique, and it's okay to feel a whole range of emotions along the way. As long as you've got your support system and resources, you'll be able to navigate this crazy adventure.
