Owatonna Minnesota Family Photographer
As a family photographer in Owatonna, MN—and a mom myself—I get it. The idea of getting everyone dressed and smiling for a photo can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be stressful! Here are some tried-and-true tips to help your session go smoothly, especially with little ones:
1. Pick the Right Time of Day
Schedule your session around nap times and mealtimes. A rested, fed kid is a happy kid! I often suggest early evening for that golden light (and it usually lines up great with dinnertime or after-nap energy).
2. Make it Fun!
Treat your session like a playdate or adventure. I’ll guide you through prompts that bring out genuine smiles and laughter—no stiff posing required.
3. Bring Comfort Items
If your child has a favorite stuffed animal, blanket, or toy, bring it along. Not only does it help them feel secure, but it might even end up being a sweet memory captured in your gallery. ( I also bring some things that may help as well!)
4. Snacks and Bribes Welcome
Pack mess-free snacks and maybe even a special treat for afterward. Gummy bears, fruit snacks, or smarties (not chocolate!) work well and won’t stain.
5. Lower Expectations for "Perfect"
Some of the best photos come from real moments—not forced smiles. I aim to capture connection, emotion, and joy, even in the chaos. Let kids be themselves, and trust that I’ve got it covered.
